L'INCONTRO SOTTO GLI ARCHI CENTRALI

 

Dinanzi alla Chiesa Madre, inizialmente, erano eretti due archi costruiti con due telai triangolari, ottenuti dall’intreccio di canne e rami di palma, decorati con forme di pane e agrumi. Questi archi trionfali, riprendendo nella forma e nel significato quelli dell’antica Roma, volevano essere la metafora fatta realtà del trionfo di Gesù Cristo sulla morte. Eretti il venerdì prima della Pasqua, decorati con il rosmarino che simboleggia il lutto, nella notte tra il sabato e la domenica erano abbelliti con ciambelle di pane, dette cuddure e marmurate, che, alla conclusione della festa, erano distribuite ai meno abbienti. Questi archi sono detti Archi Centrali, ancora oggi vengono realizzati seguendo la tradizione sia nella realizzazione della struttura che degli elementi decorativi. Al di sotto degli Archi centrali avviene, durante il giorno di Pasqua, l’Incontro tra la Madonna e Gesù Cristo Risorto.

 

 

THE MEETING UNDER THE CENTRAL ARCHES

 

At first, two arches were built in font of the Mother Church with two triangular looms, obtained by interlacing canes and palm branches, decorated with bread and citrus fruits shapes. These triumphal arches take the same shape and the same meaning of those of the Ancient Rome and they want to be the metaphor made real of Jesus Christ triumph above the dead. They were erected on Friday before Easter, decorated with rosemary, a mourning symbol, and on the night between Saturday and Sunday they were embellished with bread bagels, named cuddure and marmurate and, at the end of the feast, they were distributed to the poor. These arches are called Central Arches and still nowadays they are made according to the tradition both in the structures and in decorations. On Easter Sunday, under the Central Arches, the meeting between Our Lady and the Risen Jesus Christ takes place.
